I hope you guys had a great weekend. I attended a great event this weekend...
A friend of mine Cindy Ross has been working tirelessly with the City of Mobile to come up with a way to make Mobile a healthier city. She has started a wonderful project called ONE FIT MOBILE.
By education, encouragement and availability of physical activities, we empower the citizens of Mobile to take charge of their health and wellness. We need to challenge Mobile to become a healthier city!
I have hoped that someone would come up with something to help my city get healthier and more active. Unfortunately Mobile is not an active city at all. I have mentioned before how I am scared to death to cycle on our streets. Totally not bike friendly. We also have very few actual walking/running parks or trails. I am very confident that ONE FIT MOBILE is going to change the city.
If you go to www.onefitmobile.com and sign up for the Fitness Tracker.
One Fit Mobile Tracker can track workouts, meals, measurements, weight loss, dieting progress, medical information (such as diabetes, cholesterol, sleep and blood pressure), and more. Map running, walking and cycling routes with aerial maps. Visualize progress, judge the effectiveness of diets and workouts, and reach goals sooner.
Access it 24 hours a day, from any computer, tablet or smartphone with Internet. When accessing it with your web browser, there is no software to install. Access it from your iPhone, Android or Windows smartphone too. You don't need to buy or download any apps!
On Saturday they had their kickoff party at Cottage Hill Park and I was super excited to go hang out with Cindy and volunteer.
One of things I thought was great was all of the wonderful businesses that sponsored and helped the ONE FIT MOBILE come alive.
They had many of the local gyms and personal training studios out to demonstrate how fun working out could be and that there is class/workout for everyone. I was able to sneak up on the stage and take a quick pick of Cindy with some awesome people doing a little Zumba behind her.
There were so many people taking advantage of all that the kick off had to offer including body composition test, blood pressure checks, and they even had a running clinic by Ryan from Southern Fitness.
I was able to pick up a pair of my now favorite workout pants in yellow from Fit Plus Wear. If you haven't checked these out, do it! They are AMAZING!
It turned out to be an awesome community day they had a great turn out. I heard nothing but great things from the vendors and the people that attended.
To close the day they had an amazing band come and perform. Award winning band Midnight Star performed all of their greatest hits including No Parking on the Dance Floor and Operator. If you were like me and grew up at the skating rink back in the 80's, you know these songs. They were so much fun to watch and listen to.
All of the great healthy information that they gave the City of Mobile on Saturday was so informative. Make sure to go and sign up for the Fitness tracking and the perks program.
Overall it was an amazing day and I am so grateful that I was able to have a small part in helping. The next ONE FIT MOBILE community kickoff will be on October 11 at Bienville Square. I hope to see all of you guys out there supporting this wonderful city.
One last thing before I go, I have an amazing Mamma Chia giveaway next Monday. Look at what they have to give one lucky reader...
Good luck!
Do you have a healthy program in your city?
Midnight Star favorite song? :)
We live in a small village where there are a ton of trails for riding, running and walking! Our tiny little village hosts several activities throughout the year from 5ks, to bike races, fishing contests, camp outs and other active family activities. It's really one of the biggest reasons I love where we live! If only it wasn't so darned cold half the year!!

ReplyDeleteThis event looks really good and has the potential to built up communal ties or strengthen already existing ones. I hope that this even was a resounding success for the city and hope more is planned for the future.
