Traveling for a race? Yes, please!
The one thing I have really enjoyed about running races is getting to travel to different places to run. I have always wanted to go to California, so getting the chance to race in California is even better. So what do you do when you want to get away?
You call your best girlfriends and plan a trip.
The plan was for Mandy, Melanie, and I to fly into Phoenix on Friday night and and wake up early Saturday morning and take a road trip to San Diego. So 4 a.m. comes early when you don't get to bed till 1 a.m. :( However we were so excited to get to San Diego we managed to pull off the famous jump picture at the Cali sign...
Yes we were excited.
We arrived at the expo around lunch time. I love the RNR expos, they always have the best vendors in the health and fitness industry. And the swag you get is amazing.
Whooha Gear sent us these fantastic t shirts to wear to the expo, we had so many comments on them. You guys should check them out HERE!
They are some of the most comfortable shirts I have ever owned.
Once we had went through the expo, we went to our cousins house for fantastic chicken tacos and homemade guacamole.
YUM
See all of our bags of swag?
Sunday June 3rd- RACEDAY
Of course we had matching shirts. Cant race without them, thanks Darlene!
We had some great sponsors and companies for this race...
I was sooo excited to have their great support...
This may come as a surprise to everyone, but a 6:15 AM is way too early for a race start time, OMG
that means waking up at 4am, UGH!
Luckily our hotel had a shuttle that picked us up and took us to the start line, which ROCKED!
We got to the start about 5am and were able to walk around and take some pictures and actually see the Elite crowd start line...
We were in corral 32 so we had a while before we started, so we were able to hang out and meet other runners like Mrs Elvis...
and Mr and Mrs Flintstone
This is why I love the Rock n Roll series. You never know who you night meet.
We started the race about 7 or so. The course was pretty rough. Very hilly!
The weather was absolutely fantastic. 70 degrees and overcast! PERFECT
13.1 miles later we crossed the finish line.
Overall it was a great experience, the only complaint I had was at the finish it was hard to figure out where to go for the afterparty.
So we left and went boating, HEAVEN!
Oh, how fun! A trip and race with girlfriends- doesn't get much better than that. Glad you had such a good time, congrats on your half!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun trip, travelling for races is great. I loved RnR San Diego when I ran it a few years ago, the atmosphere and runners were so much fun :)
